"Theres gonna be more crying..." A friend of mine that just had her second baby, weeks before me, forewarned me when I asked how her "Mom of 2-ness" was going so far. I jotted the note down somewhere in the back of my already full "momma brain." But, boy did it come back around to the "front row seat" of my memory, a week or two after Cedar joined us at home.

Kael only cried for as long as it took me to soothe him. Which, most of the time was instantly. Cedar, bless his loving heart, has probably cried more in his 4 weeks of life than Kael did in his first 6 months. Not because Im neglecting him or letting him cry it out...it just happens as I take care of two. Yeah, I might be exaggerating a little but, it feels that way sometimes.

I dont like letting my babies cry at all. They are babies and thats how they communicate that they need something. If I can soothe them, gosh darn it, Im going to! But, there are so many pockets of time during my day when one kid needs something and I cant calm the other one right at the moment. Yep, my house or my car is full of cries and whines, several times a day. haha. Did I mention mister little bear has a love/hate (more on the hate side) with his carseat?  Oh yes. Kael always was silent and content in his... Cedar? Not so much. When I go to pick up Kael from preschool, or drive anywhere actually, its pretty much a car full of crying, the whole way there and back. I cant pull over every 5 minutes to soothe him. When the reality is, even if I did pull over, the only thing that will make my sweet little precious calm down is to be in my arms and I cant do that when Im driving. I have recently found that if I feed him good and long, right before we leave, it kinda drugs him to sleep. haha. Lets give a big gold star for boobies! Just recently hes started to come around to the idea of car rides, but it sure is a slow growing affection.

Slowly but surely, Im finding my rhythm as a momma of 2 little boys, which is completely different than the flow Kael and I had together. Really, Kael is having to adjust just as much as I am now. Just like Cedar, he has to eat, have attention, have diaper changes and countless other things that he requires throughout the day.  As much as I would love it, his needs dont always come up at the most opportune times.  Sometimes, I just laugh at the ridiculousness of the moment, or...I join in with whichever one is crying...or it might be a cry fest of all 3 of us.

The truth is, when Im 60 years old and my kids are grown and off doing exciting stuff, Im going to long for even just one day that I have right now with them, cries and all. That reality pushes me back to sanity in tired moments. ;)

Aaaaaand, as I wrap up this jumbled post, Cedar is singing the song of his people, by crying quite loudly, as he lets me know that he desires my boob... again! Kaels volume is trying to match that of his brother, also letting me know that he wants more cereal and his sagging diaper is emitting an odor that the army could bottle up and use for torture. haha.

I would love to hear tips and input from other moms out there. What have you found works for you, since youve had two or more in different situations throughout the day? (or night.) I find that gleaning tid bits of success from my friends has helped me so much and I know there are lots of experienced mommas out there.

To say you are the sweetest, most gentle, little souls that Ive loved is to speak my heart. 

Motherhood has found me in simple places, the last several months. Ive been embracing my own heart, through loving my sons. Ive been finding myself, while chasing Kael on his favorite walks and discovering my dreams (old and new) by watching Cedar explore his days with fresh eyes.  

Lately, life has been full of smiles, kisses, tears, early mornings and late nights, friends, family, bumped heads and warm embraces. Ive had new motivation that usually comes for me with Spring and Summer. There are new things that I am excited about and old things that Im learning to dance with, with grace and hope. I have ideas, projects that Ive been working on, pictures that Ive taken and things that Ive created that are waiting to be shared. There are stories scribbled down, songs written and sung at the kitchen sink,  designs Ive tinkered with and new journeys that we have started and are about to begin.

All of those things havent been my driving passion or inspiration during this season, though. Its been the faces of my boys and the heart of my husband that have been my beauty and creative engine. Allowing my heart to explore and soak in this life of mine, without set expectations of my own or others, has been sweet. 

Finding the balance and that fulfilling place of being a mother and an artist, has been a continual growing and learning experience for me. As an artist, Ive always wanted to do more, reach deeper with that discontented desire for originality. Right now, my heart feels good, settled in my title of "momma," fulfilled with a healthy desire to create more. 

My home is my center. My family is my home and Im learning in every moment of every day how to create a living art, by loving them.

On Friday June 20, 2014 Alison became a Bat Mitzvah.  For months, weeks and days Ive worked on planning the party while she worked on learning her Torah portion. The whole process of planning was very emotional.  I cried almost every day while putting together her video montage.  Then I cried during the service, more tears of joy than sorrow.  How did the time fly by so quickly?

And it occurred to me a few times I should have been working on a Bar Mitzvah last year. I prayed to Solomon to just watch over her, and I think sometimes he does.

After a recent score of yards and yards of vintage fabrics and trims, I have been working away, crafting lots of new dolls for my Charlie & Nell doll shop! Before the new baby comes, I have set some pretty big goals to try and achieve with my little dolly biz.  I also want to get a jump start before fall rolls around (I cant believe it is right around the corner!) eeek!

Of course I absolutely LOVE making these dolls, but I also have some extra motivation to whip these vintage beauties out right now! We have decided to enroll Kael into a two day a week preschool (just for half a day) with a few of his best little friends. I never really thought I would put Forest boy in preschool and especially so young. But, I have been observing how Kael thrives when he is around people and kids his age. (He is truly Mr. Social!) He loves being challenged and having hands on crafts/activities to stimulate him. Lets face it, with having a new born right as he is turning 2, I wont be able to do finger painting and make cotton ball butterflies with him every week. Id like to, but the reality of that happening is next to zero!  

Actually, its really perfect timing and an ideal situation on so many levels. One of my closest girl friends husband is the principal at the school. I got to visit there last year to watch her daughter and my other friends son perform their Christmas program. It was SO precious! So, my comfort level is beyond at ease. He starts school right around the time of my due date. Im also hoping to go a wee bit late so I can take him to his first day. This is such a big deal to my momma heart. 

So, Im super excited and in total sewing mode. I am hoping my dolly business will help supplement and pay for his tuition. My goal is by mid next week to have half of the ones Ive finished up in my shop ! (Ive been cutting out tons and tons of outfit combos, doll body parts and stitching countless faces for the holiday season, as well!) There are SO many extra sweet dollies Ive made this round! Those are the last words from an essay that I just read this morning, after a friend posted it on facebook. And now, my heart is a lovely mess. You seriously need to take 5 minutes and read it. I was left in tears. Good tears.  It is too precious and filled my heart with so much truth and love. Written by a mother, embracing her body and the beauty of this story of life. Grab a tissue, the last paragraph was it for me, as she wrote to her son...get ready. I want to raise my boys with this heart and ode to true beauty, helping mold them into amazing future loves and husbands. Its given me a whole new awareness of how I see and treat myself, especially in front of them.  *insert love filled sob here.* Anna, Im so glad you posted this.

Sometimes life is just strange and I find myself giving my head a whack with the back of my hand.

Alison asked about Solomon.  Alison asks a lot of questions and she is not the type of child who is easily pacified.  I often have to ask her to ask me the question again in a few days, when I have had time to think of and formulate a solid answer for her.

She asked how Solomon died.  How do you explain pPROM to a ten-year old?  Somehow I managed an answer.  She knew that when a baby is in a moms tummy, the baby is swimming in water.  I told her this was special fluid that helps the baby breath, like a fish.  I explained how my water came out.  She asked if this is what it means when the water breaks so I know she understands a little of the mechanics.

I told her usually the water breaks when a mommy is 9 months pregnant and the baby is ready to be born.  But in my case, the water came out at 5 months.  And because the water helped Solomon breath and grow, and the water was gone, he died.

She got it.  She totatly seemed to understand, and went on to resume playing.  Go figure.

Happy Monday friends!  Hope you all had a great weekend!  With all the working out Ive been doing lately, Ive noticed that Ive been more tired at the end of the day (which is a good thing!) because it means Im getting to bed at a decent hour instead of staying up way too late.  I even slept from 9:30 p.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Sunday.  I guess my body needed it.  As I write this on Sunday night, Im thinking of the Monday morning workout with my trainer, which I know is gonna be awesome (and so hard).  Im loving these workouts and actually look FORWARD to them!

I showed yall last week that, although my tummy is looking much tighter these days, theres still work to be done.  I was provided a toning gel formulated to help firm and tone your skin, called Fat Girl SixPack by Bliss.  Im giving it a try and will let you know what I think. The product states that its not a weight loss or fat loss cream, but is formulated with amino acids, creatine, oat kernel extract, latex-rich manilkara tree extract, menthol, and a special botanical extract to help you get firmer skin (in combination with exercise and a healthy diet).

I have the exercise and healthy diet going on, so lets see if I notice any difference with this gel.  Im going to follow the directions and put it on my stomach twice a day for 20-30 seconds for 2 weeks and will report back with my "findings".  I have tried it once (you pump the bottle up and massage the gel into your skin with the applicator. Its easy to apply and the cream feels nice and tingly on your skin- perhaps from the menthol.
