Yesterday, I had the opportunity to have a girly medical procedure.  The last time I had this procedure was 2000.  In fact I had two that year: one 7 weeks after losing Solomon and the second for my blighted ovum.

For the 2000 events, I remember bargaining with God, please let my body heal, please let me get pregnant and have a living baby.  This time around, I was bargaining to let me live.  I get very paranoid and have fatalistic thoughts whenever I am anaesthetized.  Now it takes the form of how will my family go on without me?  Im not that narcissistic to believe they would be incapable.  I just get so saddened at thoughts of what I would miss if I werent here to be with them.

Obviously things went well as deep in my heart I knew they would.  Still, lingering thoughts about the trajectory of my life.

This year we decided to take a little tour of some of the top breakfast joints in the area close to our condo in Laguna Beach. I love a good breakfast – especially at a local dive – so we hit up the best places we could find as listed by Trip Adviser and Zomato (formally UrbanSpoon).

First up was Donut Hole in Rosemary Beach. We loved Donut Hole in Destin, but I think we liked this new Donut Hole better. Probably because it was a much bigger restaurant and we had absolutely zero wait.

We actually almost didnt find the restaurant as it is so new that our GPS could not find it. Its not the same diner atmosphere as the Destin location, but it was still delicious food. Outside the restaurant were game areas including ping pong and a Donut Hole game (basically Corn Hole) so that you would have something to do if there was a wait.

I had a Seafood Omelet (which was fantastic), while Jack discovered the little jelly packets on the table and insisted on toast and pancakes at every breakfast place, and Daniel had a healthy Grilled Chicken Salad (it was noon after all). 

When we paid our bill we all chose donuts from the donut case. They were excellent. We are definitely fans of Donut Hole (#4 breakfast place in Panama City Beach on Trip Advisor).

FATTY PATTYS

On Day Two of our trip, we went to Fatty Pattys for breakfast. The slogan for the restaurant is "For the little fatty patty in all of us." I thought the slogan was hilarious. 

Great coffee and excellent breakfast. I had the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes with Eggs and Bacon, Daniel had a Chocolate Chip Waffle and Jack stuck with his pancakes and toast. 

Our waitress told us to be sure to grab donuts at Thomas Donut & Snack Shop in Laguna Beach.

We all loved Fatty Pattys and would plan on going back if we were in the area (#3 breakfast place in Panama City Beach on Trip Advisor).

JESSES PLACE

On Day Three we tried Jesses Place. It is a family-owned diner in Panama City Beach.  They serve breakfast and are also a meat-and-three, serving food until 2pm.

Our waiter was the son of the owners and he was great. We had wonderful service, the food was good and he kept gushing over our two boys. Its not often you have a young man gush over kiddos. 

Daniel had the Papas Breakfast, I tried The Classic and we stuck with getting Jack toast. All of which was delicious. We were the last to leave the diner and they never hurried us. 

We are big fans of Jesses Place and glad we made the stop there (#1 breakfast place in Panama City Beach on Trip Advisor).

Finally, on our last morning we grabbed a donut from Thomas Donut & Snack Shop as advised by our waitress at Fattys Pattys. She suggested that we arrive early to get a good donut before they ran out.

Daniel took Jack and they got a donut with sprinkles for Jack (of course), a chocolate glazed one for Daniel and I had a Key-Lime Custard Filled donut. They werent super fresh, but they were all delicious (#2 breakfast place in Panama City Beach on Trip Advisor).



We ended up trying the top 4 bakeries/breakast eateries in the Panama City Beach area and really liked all of them.

I am home now almost 24 hours after a passing nightmare. Adam has been sick since October 13 and while the initial ailment resolved fairly quickly, a secondary one set in. We went from "check in in the morning if he is still running a fever" to "I have to send you to the ER at the hospital."

Losing Solomon was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. But lying in the hospital chair-bed, next to Adams silently dripping IV, I realized it could not have been. Solomons loss was losing a dream, but the reality that I was here with a sick kid was a living nightmare. The panic took root in my bones, and while we are out of the woods now, my body has not relaxed.

Luckily, whatever was ailing Adam has seemed to pass. He has been fever-free for 72 hours. He is so drugged up for a broad range of possible illness that I know all the bad germs are almost gone. He is eating his restricted diet and will return to school Monday [god willing] on restricted activities.

But he is fine, and he is home.

Saturday afternoon and evening were spent decorating our Christmas trees. First came our real tree with the Gingerbread Cookie Ornaments and white sparkle lights. Jack was pumped about this experience. Though he was disappointed that we didnt have a star for the top (we do now).

I turned on the Christmas music and we added our cookie ornaments to the tree. We strategically moved Jack around the tree since he was inclined to hang everything in clumps together.

Im not sure what he liked more: hanging the ornaments or eating the cookies (Ill get to that later).

After our tree was decorated, we took a break before heading out to the local seafood market to grab dinner. A sampler platter for me and Daniel and salmon for Jack hit the spot.

After we had our fill of seafood, we headed home to decorate tree #2.

Our little fake tree was purchased in 2002 when we were first married. The tree skirt was actually used in our wedding. I think the tree cost us $10 at Big Lots and it has great sentimental value for us. 

For a brief moment last week, we couldnt find the tree and we were both a little sad to think that it might have gotten lost in our last move. Thankfully Daniel found it.

The ornaments on this tree are really special to us.

They include old ornaments from our childhoods, gifted ornaments from our wedding, and ornaments we have collected on every trip we have taken over the last 12 years. 

They also include ornaments that belong to Jack. A whole smorgasbord of memories can be found on our little fake tree.

One other tradition we typically do when we decorate our tree is to drink my special decadent hot chocolate, while watching a Christmas movie. This year we let Jack watch a Curious George: A Very Monkey Christmas and while drinking the special hot chocolate (for him I blended it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and skipped the kahlua!).

Now back to the cookies... while I finished making the hot chocolate that Daniel and I were going to drink, Jack came up to me and said that his mouth was yucky. He had dark brown stuff in his teeth that wouldnt wipe off and I couldnt figure out what was in his mouth.

After consulting with Daniel, we realized he had asked Daniel to eat a cookie and Daniel said yes. Unfortunately the "cookie" in question was a cinnamon applesauce cookie ornament that was 3 years old...

I hurried Jack upstairs to the bathroom to brush the remnants out of his teeth and off his tongue. He seemed fine so I had him drink a bunch of water. Thankfully he didnt have an adverse reaction to eating the ornament.

While I took care of brushing Jacks teeth out, the rest of the hot chocolate for me and Daniel burned. So much for enjoying it with our tree decorating! The whole decorating mood was killed a bit after that, but Jack still enjoyed hanging all of the ornaments.

Sometimes things go how you want them to, sometimes they dont. Such is life. But we will probably always remember how Jack ate a cookie that wasnt a cookie!

Kael has been so obsessed with farm animals lately, especially horses and cows, its so precious. We have a green way, not too far from our house and decided to take our little buddy to see and enjoy their farm animals. His face was pure joy when he saw the horses grazing. His little voice started making horse and cow sounds. I could feel my Texas heart swell with pride as he fearlessly fed and patted them. (I used to be a cowgirl, no joke. Longhorns, wranglers, bareback riding and all.) He roamed, found magical sticks, climbed up 100 year old porches of the cabins on the property and explored the trails with us. 

A hysterical moment happened when his first time worn, vintage Alf shoes, which he LOVED, started to fall to pieces as he ran through a field. The soles just started falling off. (This boy loves him some shoes, and fine threads.) He was seriously upset and distraught that his beloved shoes were ruined.  He looked so confused. I felt so bad for him, but it was SO, so funny. Sweet boy. Thankfully I packed an extra pair of sandals,  just in case and our day continued.  

It was such a wonderful, simple time with the 3, almost 4 of us.  Im so glad we went. It was kinda last minute and didnt make all that much sense to go, seeing we had tons to do before an out of town wedding trip. But, years down the road Ill remember the sweetness of the time we made for this little adventure. I wont remember all the stuff we had to do once we got home. Thats the beauty of happy memories. 

Oh little boy, knowing we can make your heart happy is the most amazing feeling for your daddy and me. We talked about that very fact driving down to see your beloved horses and cows today. You are our happiest smile. Love you little handsome. More adventures to come. 

37 Weeks with our new  handsome little boho boy. I cant wait to bring my boys here to romp around and explore together.

Daddy kisses are the best. The love between these two makes my heart burst. This thing, this experience called life, keeps having more meaning and more beauty every step of the journey.
