weight loss in pregnancy uk | Baby Update 32 Weeks Whats It Like to Have Polyhydramnios

weight loss in pregnancy uk

I have had some questions about how I am feeling so I thought I would share what it has been like for me to experience Polyhydramnios with this pregnancy. If you have missed my previous posts, I have too much amniotic fluid in my uterus which makes my belly really big and it also causes early contractions (and possibly labor) because my body thinks it is further along than it is. For me it meant a hospital stay at almost-30 weeks to stop contractions.

Yesterday I had my follow up with the high-risk OB. Their ultrasound measurements showed the fluid is currently 21cm (which is below the risk). The measurements are a bit of an art project with different people getting different numbers (last week I was still measuring 25cm). The doctor I saw said they will continue to measure and assess me on a weekly basis for now. According to him, once I make it to 34 weeks, they would not try to prevent birth if I went into labor. He also mentioned wanting to induce me at 38 weeks. We shall see... my regular OB thinks I can go to 40 weeks and doesnt seem to feel inclined to speed up the process. As with all of our previous ultrasounds, this baby is staying head down.

 Baby #2, 32 Weeks

So, how does it feel to have Polyhydramnios?
Big Belly.
At 32 weeks pregnant I look like I am much further along than I am (comparison photo of when I was pregnant with Jack at bottom of post). I get a lot of questions about my due date and then incredulous (or sympathetic) looks when I say that Im not due until mid April. I have had a few joking comments about expecting twins, but mostly I get sympathy. Believe me, I know Im getting big. At least (for me) you cant really tell Im pregnant from behind...

Difficulty Breathing.
Starting around 20 weeks, I began experiencing a lot of instances of being light headed. For no reason, I will catch my breath and it feels like a giant weight is sitting on my chest. This feeling has progressed over the last 10+ weeks due to the excess fluid that is pushing on my lungs and organs. Thankfully I am not having actual problems breathing, but it can be really uncomfortable. This is also a major reason I continue to exercise. Aerobic activity improves the efficiency of the bodys cardiovascular system in absorbing and transporting oxygen, which is important when your lung capacity is diminished due to extra fluid taking up space.

Eating/Heartburn.
Also around 20 weeks I noticed that I felt extra bloated. This continued to where eating even small amounts makes me feel generally miserable. I feel hungry all the time and eating just makes me feel crappy. The best way I can describe it would be how you feel at the end of your pregnancy, except I am only 32 weeks and have felt this way for the last couple of months. Worse, it gives me heartburn like I cannot describe. I take Nexium every morning and supplement with Tums. In the beginning Nexium really helped, now I am just managing as best I can. I can get extreme heartburn from something as basic as drinking water or even the smell of food.

Baby #2, 32 Weeks Baby Profile

Braxton Hicks.
I had some Braxton Hicks with Jack, but not enough to really be of note. Around the time I started feeling this baby kick (18 weeks) I started having Braxton Hicks. They happen regularly throughout the day and do not hurt at all. They did land me in the hospital when I had them non-stop, every 2-minutes, for 12+hours straight (I was almost 30 weeks). They do not cause me any pain (Ive had paper cuts that hurt worse) but they are uncomfortable. At this point we are praying they do not jump start real labor. A few of the things that cause my Braxton Hicks include: standing up, sitting down, laying down, working out, grocery shopping, driving my car, walking, not drinking enough water or having a full bladder... I think this is also considered having an irritable uterus.

Very Hard Belly.
I have experienced a very hard belly since the beginning of my second trimester. This makes it really hard to give myself my daily shots in my belly. It also makes it very uncomfortable (and sometimes painful) when Jack wants to be held or if he wants to cuddle by laying on my belly. He has learned to be very gentle, but it is very difficult for me to have him lay on or beside me. This makes me sad because I want to be able to cuddle and carry him.

Putting on Shoes.
With Jack I remember having difficulty putting on my shoes some time in the third trimester. With Polyhydramnios, this sensation came much earlier (25 weeks-ish). Any kind of bending over is very uncomfortable due to the hard belly, Braxton Hicks and heartburn. In addition to bending, it is very difficult to roll over or get up from laying down with any kind of grace. This is a normal thing for later in pregnancy, it has just been uncomfortable and hard from a much earlier point for me. Shaving my legs is not gonna happen until after this baby arrives.

Heavy Belly.
Also starting around 20 weeks, I noticed that my belly felt incredibly heavy when I would lay down. It required extra pillows for support. All of the extra fluid just makes everything hurt. I dont really recall this with my first pregnancy.

Comparison: Pregnant with Jack, 32 Weeks

So, I guess the best way to describe having Polyhydramnios is experiencing typical end-of-pregnancy symptoms, just worse and much earlier. I still have 8 weeks to go with all of these lovely symptoms.

weight loss journey during pregnancy | Im happy to be pregnant but I dont want to talk about it

weight loss journey during pregnancy

This week, I got together with several women from church for a tea party for our preschooler girls. I was asked many times about my pregnancy and how Im feeling. Which was very thoughtful. But Im sure I came off as so rude in return. Im uncomfortable talking about my pregnancy and I imagine the other women thought I was being terse and cold. I just cant small talk about pregnancy anymore. But for most moms, thats probably a hard concept to grasp. After all, I am currently pregnant and everything seems to be going well. Whats the harm in talking about it?

For other women chatting about where theyre going to give birth might be a casual conversation, but it requires me to assume that I will indeed be giving birth to a child at the end of this pregnancy and I cant go there quite yet. At times, its a stretch to even think of myself as still pregnant come next week, never mind six months from now. Its also those kinds of conversations that haunt me after a loss. The conversations about whether were going to find out the sex come flooding back when we reach 20 weeks and imagine us going in for our anatomy scan, urgently telling the ultrasound tech, "We dont want to know! Please dont give it away!" And when were facing down the due date that will never be, I cant help but remember the conversations about the birth center or midwife weve chosen, the carefully crafted plans we made to bring our baby into this world in a gentle and natural way.

As a mom who has experienced many more losses than live births, I find it easier to take everything one day at a time, to live in the present and not plan ahead more than is absolutely necessary. Acting as if only the present exists makes it possible for me to find a bit of excitement and joy in my pregnancy. I think this is because I need to treat the pregnancy as an end of its own. When pregnancy is treated as only the means to a end (a living child), then the vast majority of my pregnancies lose all purpose. And if I need anything right now, I need this pregnancy to mean something, to have value today even if it might end tomorrow.

baby weight loss transformation | Baby Update 39 Weeks 10 Days To Go

baby weight loss transformation

Daniel stayed home from work today so that he could go to the OB with me. We are in the final stages after all. Jack is soaking up the extra time with his daddy – as I write this, they are outside changing a battery in a car with plans to wash all of the cars next.

I am still wrapping my head around the fact that we only have 10 days (at the most) before Baby#2 joins us. This past weekend Daniel and I finally committed to working on our list of names. We have narrowed it to 28 girl names and 22 boy names. We obviously need help... I think we are hoping we will just "know" when we see our sweet baby for the first time.

I am currently 2cm dilated and 80% effaced and the baby has dropped. I was fairly certain it must have dropped this past week because I can breathe and eat again and dont feel quite so miserable. My amniotic fluid is staying at a reasonable 22.5cm – so lower risks! I did lose 4 pounds this week. I am assuming that is water loss since I am barely swollen this week.

Over the weekend I experienced a horrific sinus headache that lasted 3 days. I thought my cheeks were going to explode. I am glad that has passed, but with allergy season upon, I may need to invest in a neti pot.

I have been more apprehensive lately as the time draws closer for this baby to come. With Jack, my water broke and I immediately knew that I was in labor. With my miscarriage, it was a similar experience, there was a moment when it was abundantly clear that things were going to start happening. With this labor, I have had a lot more uncertainty. I still get regular Braxton Hicks contractions – my stomach gets incredibly hard and uncomfortable and then 30 seconds later it stops. This has gone on for so long, I feel like I wont know when the time is real.

I havent done this list for this pregnancy, but here are a few of my numbers this time around:
368 prenatal vitamins swallowed.
203 shots in my stomach.
91 baby names reduced to 50 (we only need 2).
62 bootcamp classes completed.
31 pump (weight lifting) classes completed.
24 piyo classes completed.
23 pounds gained.
22 OB visits checked off.
14 ultrasounds.
10 Braxton Hicks contractions experienced on average every day.
10 days until our due date/induction.
8 gender-neutral outfits purchased.
7.5+ pounds is approximately what Baby#2 weighs right now.
5 pillows needed for sleeping.
2 nights in the hospital for pre-term labor.
1 crib, 1 rock n play and 1 carseat dug out of the basement and assembled.
1 final OB appointment and ultrasound scheduled for next week.
0 books read or classes attended pertaining to birth or parenting.

Baby #2, almost 39 Weeks

weight loss early pregnancy no vomiting | Books I Read in 2014

weight loss early pregnancy no vomiting

I have been an avid reader for most of my life. I like that books bring me knowledge, personal growth and entertainment. Since becoming a mother, I dont read as much as I used to but still make the effort to expand my knowledge (beyond surfing the internet). Below are the books read in 2014. You can click on the links to read my reviews over at Goodreads.

January

1) The Spy Mistress by

February
2) Believing God by Beth Moore

March
3) 7: An Expiremental Mutiny Against Excess by Jen Hatmaker
4) French Kids Eat Everything by Karen Le Billon
5) Confessions of an Economic Hit Man by John Perkins

6) Surprised by Motherhood by Lisa-Jo Baker
7) 1000 Gifts by Ann Voskamp

May/June

8) Fearless by Max Lucado
9) The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman

July
10) The Map of True Places by Brunonia Barry

August-November
I attempted to read the following books and just couldnt seem to finish any of them...
I received a free copy of Somewhere Safe with Somebody Good by Jan Karon and I just couldnt get into it. I dont read a lot of fiction, and when I do it is typically historical fiction, sci-fi or dystopian in nature. This book didnt fit any of those categories and I never was able to commit to reading it.

America, Emipire of Liberty by

Khaled Hosseini courtesy of Goodreads. I really enjoyed it, but was too lazy to get a real copy and I am kind of over reading on digital devices at this point. Several years ago, I really enjoyed reading the Kite Runner and hope to finish this new book by Hoseeini when I get a chance.

I picked up How We Got to Now by Steven Johnson at my local library in an effort to get back into reading actual, tangible books. The premise of this book was fascinating, but the writing style was a bit ADD for me. I ended up rechecking it and made it 2/3rds of the way through, but just couldnt quite finish it.

Another library book I recently picked up was The Innovators by

If you are interested, here is what I have read over the last 5 years: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.

after pregnancy weight loss in hindi | It is with great joy

after pregnancy weight loss in hindi

that I announce the birth of our son, David Newton, Jr., on November 11, 2015 at 6:25pm. 7 lbs 12 oz and 20.25 inches. He was delivered by his daddy in our car. An ambulance arrived a few minutes later and we were taken to the closest hospital. All of us are healthy and doing well. It was certainly a crazy birth, but in many ways his unconventional entrance seems like a very unexpected answer to so many of our prayers.

We came home yesterday and are learning what its like to be a family of four. Big sis Lucia is especially very enamored and protective of "little brudder". Thank you to everyone who has prayed for our family throughout this pregnancy, we are so grateful!

Birth story to come. In the meantime, here are some pictures of little Davids first few days.

baby weight loss diet plan | Vitamix Blender Worth It

baby weight loss diet plan

Last year I was considering purchasing a Vitamix blender and then was shocked to see how expensive they were when I visited the website.  I was so naive about the price!  I wrote about it on Honey Were Home, asking people if they thought the Vitamix was worth it and got a lot of responses, mostly people encouraging me to make the splurge and others saying blenders that sell for much less will do the job fine.  I was still on the fence when I was at Costco one day and they had a Vitamix 5200s on sale (but now I cant recall the exact price) so I went ahead and bought it.  Amazon sells a Vitamix5200s for $449.99 ($100 less than the Vitamix website).

I have to say I love it!  I mix protein smoothies in it almost daily and they contain ice and frozen fruit, which blend up perfectly.  Perhaps a less expensive blender would also work, but Im confident this one will last a very long time- it comes with a 7-year warranty.

I will say, the downside of my Vitamix blender is its height- it wont fit on the counters under our cabinets because its too tall.  We tend to keep ours out near the kitchen sink because we use it so often, and store it in a lower cabinet where it fits fine.  I just rinse it with hot soap and water right after each use, and lay it upside down to dry.

One feature I really like is that its not that loud compared to other blenders Ive heard.  Now, I want to venture outside of just making smoothies.  I know you can make soups, dips, salsa, and have even heard of chicken salad and dough.

Do you have a Vitamix?  Id love to hear what you are making in your blender besides smoothies.

Im considering pureeing up some veggies to sneak into my sons food (maybe into his blueberry muffins or something like that).  Any recommendations? Hes the pickiest eater Ive seen!

post pregnancy weight loss how long | Turkey Chili

post pregnancy weight loss how long

Here is another high protein meal that I like to make on the weekend, then refrigerate for leftovers throughout the week.  I dont think I ever make it exactly the same way twice, since Im always tweaking the spices, cooking time, and ingredients.

Below is a basic recipe that you can adjust based on your taste preferences.

Ingredients
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/4 lb extra lean ground turkey
  • 3 cloves of garlic minced
  • chili powder- 2 teaspoons
  • black pepper- 1/2 teaspoon
  • cumin- 4 tablespoons (I like a lot, maybe I use more??)
  • chili beans- 1 or 2 cans, rinsed
  • diced tomatoes, undrained- 1 can 14 oz
  • tomato paste- 1 can 6 oz
  • chicken broth- 1can 14 oz
  • 2% shredded cheese for topping
Directions
  • Heat oil in a large dutch oven or pot on medium heat.  Add onions until translucent.
  • Add turkey and break into small pieces.  Cook until browned.
  • Stir in garlic and spices.
  • Add beans.
  • Add tomatoes, tomato paste, and chicken broth.
  • Then I start tasting and adjusting the spices.  I sometimes add a pinch of cayenne, a little salt, and more cumin and/or chili powder.
  • I cook it for about 45 minutes on a low simmer.

pregnancy weight loss workout | Word for the Year Peace

pregnancy weight loss workout

View on Flipagram

At this time last year, I wrote about the desire to choose joy in my life. To delight in what is in front of me regardless of the situation. It was a hard year to be focused on joy. But looking back, I do think that there were moments of sweetness mixed in with the hard. To be honest, its hard not to embrace some amount of joy when you are seeing the world, fresh through a toddlers eyes.

So even in the times I was experiencing doubt, sadness or anxiety, my little family made it possible to find moments of joy in my life.

As I look to 2015, Im not sure what to expect. In a few short months I will have a newborn in my arms again. I am keenly aware of the sleepless nights to come. I am unsure of what it will look like to balance the needs of a newborn with those of a thriving toddler. Not to mention my marriage or my personal needs. I am excited about this year, but that excitement is tempered with a degree of trepidation.

With that in mind, I think peace is a word that I want to keep in mind for 2015. Its not an earth shattering word or a new concept, but freedom of the mind from annoyance, distraction, anxiety, an obsession; and tranquillity; serenity are things that I desperately need when life gets chaotic. On those days that Daniel has to work long hours, or I feel like I am being pulled in a million directions, I hope that I can have the the fortitude to be free of distraction and anxiety or obsession and to adapt and be deliberate in the phase of life I am in, finding joy in all things.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Words from previous years:
Fortitude {2010} ~ Adaptation {2011} ~ Patience {2012}
Deliberate {2013} ~ Joy {2014}

baby weight loss tumblr | Paddling North Chick

baby weight loss tumblr

This is the last week before Baby#2 arrives and I have really been desiring to spend some final time as a family of three.

On Easter Sunday I actually brought up the idea of a quick paddle at North Chickamauga Creek, but Daniel nixed the idea and told me I needed to rest since I was battling a painful sinus headache. I begrudgingly heeded his advice and took a nap.

This Sunday I felt great and was not to be deterred. Forget that our taxes are due and I know Daniel needs some down time from his long work hours, I really wanted to do one family activity with just the three of us.

Jack must know that things are about to change because he has been incredibly sweet to me (more than usual). He pats my belly and asks if he can climb on me if he is gentle. He also has been giving me lots of sweet kisses on the cheek and loves to tell me that the reason he and Daniel bought me flowers for Easter is because they love me.

Sophie must also know something is up because she has been shadowing me non stop. When your dog is underfoot it is very difficult to get any house work done.

As for our paddling trip, I decided we should go to North Chick with a put in at Greenway Farms behind the dog park. The water is flat and extremely peaceful.

We only saw a few people fishing and it was incredibly quite for being in town. The water was pretty chilly (it is April afterall) so I am thankful we didnt fall in.

We still need to get Jack his own paddle. He whined for a while that he needed a grown up paddle. We got him a stick to "paddle" with, but while he liked dragging it through the water, it was not the same as having his own paddle.

With a newborn entering our lives in less than a week, I dont know when we will be able to get back on the water. Im pretty sure Jack and Daniel will have an opportunity before I will.

We are even considering the possibility of kayaks to make paddling with littles a bit more manageable. Im just thankful that we were able to take Jack out today.

Sadly for me, loading a heavy canoe, launching said canoe and paddling did not jump start my labor.
