pregnancy weight loss program | Isaacs Introduction to Food

pregnancy weight loss program

At the 6 month mark, we decided it was time to introduce Isaac to solids. Like his big brother, we are following a baby led weaning approach, though we are flexible with how it goes.

This phase of food is really just introductory and exploratory. We want him to get a general idea of eating. As of now, he mostly pushes the food around on his tray.

Like Jack, his first food was avocado. I think Jack was the one who was the most excited about this new phase of babyhood. He wanted so badly for Isaac to eat what was on his tray. It was a really sweet moment.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have offered soft cooked carrots, baby oatmeal, the crust from a sandwich, and really soft cornbread

He must be a carb lover because he loved the oatmeal and cornbread. We had trouble getting the spoon loaded fast enough for him to shovel the oatmeal into his mouth.

We didnt start Jack on food until 7 months and at 6 months Isaac doesnt seem to have the same degree of coordination that Jack did. It will be interesting to watch as his fine motor skills progress.

Milk from mama will continue to be his main source of nutrition as we move forward with food in the coming weeks and months. Im sure he will be a lover of food in no time.

I do want to note that his Aunt Angela let him have a lemon last month when we were in Florida (5 months old). It is always funny to watch babys have their first exposure to lemons – thanks Angela!

post baby weight loss regime | 2015 Vacation Breakfast at the Beach

post baby weight loss regime

This year we decided to take a little tour of some of the top breakfast joints in the area close to our condo in Laguna Beach. I love a good breakfast – especially at a local dive – so we hit up the best places we could find as listed by Trip Adviser and Zomato (formally UrbanSpoon).

DONUT HOLE

First up was Donut Hole in Rosemary Beach. We loved Donut Hole in Destin, but I think we liked this new Donut Hole better. Probably because it was a much bigger restaurant and we had absolutely zero wait.

We actually almost didnt find the restaurant as it is so new that our GPS could not find it. Its not the same diner atmosphere as the Destin location, but it was still delicious food. Outside the restaurant were game areas including ping pong and a Donut Hole game (basically Corn Hole) so that you would have something to do if there was a wait.

I had a Seafood Omelet (which was fantastic), while Jack discovered the little jelly packets on the table and insisted on toast and pancakes at every breakfast place, and Daniel had a healthy Grilled Chicken Salad (it was noon after all).

When we paid our bill we all chose donuts from the donut case. They were excellent. We are definitely fans of Donut Hole (#4 breakfast place in Panama City Beach on Trip Advisor).

FATTY PATTYS

On Day Two of our trip, we went to Fatty Pattys for breakfast. The slogan for the restaurant is "For the little fatty patty in all of us." I thought the slogan was hilarious.

Great coffee and excellent breakfast. I had the Cinnamon Roll Pancakes with Eggs and Bacon, Daniel had a Chocolate Chip Waffle and Jack stuck with his pancakes and toast.

Our waitress told us to be sure to grab donuts at Thomas Donut & Snack Shop in Laguna Beach.

We all loved Fatty Pattys and would plan on going back if we were in the area (#3 breakfast place in Panama City Beach on Trip Advisor).

JESSES PLACE

On Day Three we tried Jesses Place. It is a family-owned diner in Panama City Beach.  They serve breakfast and are also a meat-and-three, serving food until 2pm.

Our waiter was the son of the owners and he was great. We had wonderful service, the food was good and he kept gushing over our two boys. Its not often you have a young man gush over kiddos.

Daniel had the Papas Breakfast, I tried The Classic and we stuck with getting Jack toast. All of which was delicious. We were the last to leave the diner and they never hurried us.

We are big fans of Jesses Place and glad we made the stop there (#1 breakfast place in Panama City Beach on Trip Advisor).

THOMAS DONUT & SNACK SHOP

Finally, on our last morning we grabbed a donut from Thomas Donut & Snack Shop as advised by our waitress at Fattys Pattys. She suggested that we arrive early to get a good donut before they ran out.

Daniel took Jack and they got a donut with sprinkles for Jack (of course), a chocolate glazed one for Daniel and I had a Key-Lime Custard Filled donut. They werent super fresh, but they were all delicious (#2 breakfast place in Panama City Beach on Trip Advisor).

We ended up trying the top 4 bakeries/breakast eateries in the Panama City Beach area and really liked all of them.

pregnancy weight loss postpartum | Weekly Meal Plan

pregnancy weight loss postpartum

I want to be as transparent as I can on my blog, and this last week I didnt do a lot of cooking. After being gone for a week, I am still settling into normal life. We ate out some and had a lot of leftovers. Sometimes that is just life! Here are the links to the recipes I tried this week, along with my thoughts on each:

Pumpkin Pie
[recipe from the Libbys]
You can never go wrong with Pumpkin Pie. I made this to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving. Jack and I gobbled it up over the course of the week.

Spaghetti with Meat Pomodoro Sauce
[sauce recipe via FoodieCrush]
This is the same sauce I used with gnocchi a few weeks ago, and it worked great with Spaghetti as well. I added crumbled Italian sausage for some protein.

Chicken Enchilada Casserole
[recipe via Jo Cooks]
I dont make a lot of casseroles, mostly because they make too many leftovers and there is only so many times you can eat leftover enchiladas, but this is a good dish.

Probably better for a crowd though! I accidentally bought a green enchilada sauce instead of the red, but it still tasted good. I served it with corn chips (maybe carb overkill since the dish has rice it in), very good though.

Brown Sugar Turkey Meatballs with Mashed Potatoes and Carrots
[meatball recipe via Six Sisters]
I actually made this to take to a friend. It is some serious comfort food. I will have to make it again for us. Definitely a winner for a quick comfort food meal.

Oatmeal Cookie Smores Bars
[recipe via Crazy for Crust]
Talk about a crowd pleaser! I made this for our small group and it we about finished the pan off... granted the were 16 people that dug in, this stuff went fast!

baby weight loss program | Fall Break 2015 Tallahassee Jr Museum

baby weight loss program

On the second day of our Florida trip, my niece, Izzy, went to school for a field trip to visit the Tallahassee Fire Department.

My mom and sister took Levi and Jack to the fire station while my brother, Isaac and I had a lazy morning at the house.

When they came home from their outing, we packed snacks and a light lunch to take with us to the Tallahassee Museum (it was called the Jr. Museum when my brother-in-law was growing up).

The Tallahassee Museum is an outdoor museum that feels more like a mini zoo than a museum. Set on 52 acres of natural flora and fauna, it is a living exhibit of Floridas wildlife.

You can explore the Wildlife Florida section by wandering down nature trails and boardwalks which take you through various gardens and animal habitats that are native to the region.

At the beginning of our walk my mom commented that she smelled a skunk. As we circled back through the Wildlife section we discovered an area that did indeed house a skunk!

As you walk through the wildlife section you will notice large metal sculptures of dinosaurs nestled into the habitat. The collection was created by Jim Gary in 1979; and after exhibiting around the world, it now resides at the Tallahassee Museum where it provides an element of whimsy to the natural environment.

In addition to the native animals, there is a section of the Museum called Big Bend Farmstead that is dedicated to showing how rural farmers lived in the 1880s. Here you can view livestock and get a glimpse of how rural farmers spent their days.

If you have the time, you should try the Tree Top Adventures Ropes Course. As you walk through the Museum you will notice the ropes course in the tree canopy above you.

We were unable to do this adventure on this particular trip because you have to wear close-toed shoes and we were all in sandals. We hope to come back and see the habitats from above!

There is a childrens ropes course (ages 3+) and two different courses for adults. As you walk through the Museum you can see all of the platforms above you and watch as people zip line between trees.

At the end of our trip we stopped at the playground for lunch and to let our kiddos play. On more than one occasion one of our boys would yell, "Hey! Theres someone flying [on a zip line] over that building!"

The museum has been an iconic Tallahassee landmark for more than 50 years and is ranked as one of Florida’s top museums. We enjoyed our afternoon there and hope to return to do the ropes course in the future.

Fall Break Recap:
