baby weight loss first week | My Favorite All Natural Peanut Butter

baby weight loss first week

All my life I was a JIF peanut butter girl.  I bought the low-fat kind and ate it by the jarful.  I love peanut butter on almost everything- apples, celery, PB&J, chocolate, even on my pancakes.

A couple years ago, in an effort to eat less processed food, I switched to all natural peanut butter.  Ive tried all kinds of brands and even almond butter and keep coming back to my all-time favorite, Laura Scudders, because it tastes so good.  You do have to stir it some, but oil separation is normal in all-natural peanut butter.  Im currently loving the nutty one, but they also make it in smooth.  I can find it at my local grocery store.

So good on protein pancakes!  I recently tweaked that recipe- I now add a little milk to the batter too- it makes them less dense.

Are you eating all-natural peanut butter?  What brand do you like?

weight loss end pregnancy | Ahi Tuna Salad

weight loss end pregnancy

One of my favorite starters to order at a restaurant, aside from the cheese plate, is the tuna tartare.  To satisfy the craving at home, I make something similar once in awhile.  This recipe does call for a couple of unique ingredients you may not necessarily have on hand, but you can pick them up at most grocery stores.

Ingredients
  • Ahi tuna
  • Tomato
  • Avocado
  • Scallions
  • Spicy mayo (I get it from the sushi counter at my store- its about $1.00 for a small cup)
  • Wasabi paste- comes in a tube
  • Black sesame seeds
I sear the tuna in a skillet over medium high heat for about two minutes per side and them remove and let rest while I dice the tomato and avocado.  Add in a bit of chopped scallion, the spicy mayo and wasabi paste to taste and sprinkle with the black sesame seeds.

Are you into sushi or not so much?  I know people love it or hate it.  Im definitely in the love category!

weight loss journey after pregnancy | For the Mother Who Knows Loss A Giveaway

weight loss journey after pregnancy

Mothers Day is coming up. Its often a difficult day for those who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss, even if you have other children or its been many years. So I wanted to host a Mothers Day giveaway specifically for those mothers who have lost babies.

Jenna of Call Her Happy makes lovely embroidered necklaces. I have several and they are the source of so much beauty, and many compliments. She recently mentioned that she is taking orders for personalized mothers necklaces, with a pink rosette for each daughter and a blue rosette for each son.

I thought the necklace was just beautiful at it would be easy to incorporate the children we had lost as well. Since Im currently pregnant and we dont know (nor will we find out until birth) the sex of our baby, Ill have to wait to get mine, but I look forward to ordering one from Jenna with a pink rosette for Lucia, a pink or blue for baby, and four little yellow rosettes for the little ones weve lost.

I am giving one of these lovely mothers rosette necklaces away to a mom who has lost a baby. The giveaway will end Saturday, May 2nd so I have time to contact the winner and have Jenna personalize the necklace for in time for a Mothers Day arrival.

UPDATE: Allison Kinyon, who sells beautiful handmade rosaries in her Etsy shop, Rosaries by Allison, offered to include a beautiful pocket rosary with light rose, light sapphire, and crystal Swarovski round beads and Madonna & Child center. There are more entries on the Rafflecopter to reflect this addition.

Since I sell Lilla Rose hair accessories, Im also going to throw in a Lilla Rose accessory of the winners choice ($16 or under).

The giveaway is only open to mothers who have lost children, so please dont enter if this does not describe you. Open worldwide.

pregnancy ke baad weight loss | All is Well

pregnancy ke baad weight loss

I made this blog private a while back because anxiety was really getting to me. And any kind of online/social media anything just makes it so much worse. But, Ive had a few ultrasounds and everything is going well and Im starting to feel less panicky and more, well, pregnant. So here I am.

I dont have anything profound to say, but many people have been asking how Im doing, so this is just an update. My bleeding stopped a few weeks ago and other than a brief episode of light bleeding and cramping earlier this week, it seems like thats no longer anything to worry about. Ive been having all the normal pregnancy symptoms, which I am very thankful for though I certainly wouldnt mind if they were a little less extreme.  Nausea is a wonderful reminder that all is going well but throwing up many times per day doesnt seem necessary.

Im curious whether the nausea is so bad because Im taking hCG shots and its thought the hormone hCG is what causes morning sickness (so obviously, shooting up with additional amounts of it would seem to have that effect). Though I tend to be in the camp that attributes morning sickness to magnesium and/or other vitamin or mineral deficiencies, in which case it would make perfect sense that Id be depleted given the five pregnancies in less than two years thing. I certainly feel like so many pregnancies, no matter how short, and postpartum periods in such a short time have left me a little disadvantaged. And I got pregnant a week after surgery, which probably took its toll too.

My most recent ultrasound was on Wednesday and we saw a baby with a heartbeat waving around little arms and legs. So it seems like all is going well and its a pretty typical pregnancy. It doesnt feel like a typical pregnancy after four losses, though I doubt any pregnancy will ever feel typical again, but its just kind of surreal. To everyone else, it seems like Im just having this normal pregnancy, and for me its just so, so scary and strange and not normal. Im the most pregnant Ive been without miscarrying (since my daughter who was born at 41 weeks 1 days, so I have a long time before Im the most pregnant Ive ever been). Thankfully, it seems like the longer this pregnancy goes, the less anxious I get (though just incrementally less) and the more it starts to feel normal.

Oh, I guess I do have a bit of big news. Were moving back to Colorado in less than two months. It was a tough decision to make but we ultimately decided that we want to be back near family sooner rather than later.  The past few years have been tough without family to help us and I expect it will only get harder as we (hopefully) have more children or (hopefully not) have more miscarriages. The upcoming move has certainly given us something to focus on to get my mind of pregnancy concerns all day every day. (Instead I worry about David not finding a job! Which, while scary and stressful, is not nearly as scary and stressful as worrying about miscarrying again.) So, if you dont already have enough to pray about and youd like to pray for our pregnancy and baby AND that David find a job, Id be so very grateful.

Unrelated, but what I would like to be doing right now.

pregnancy weight loss forum | Healthy Greek Chopped Salad

pregnancy weight loss forum

Hi everyone!  It’s Jennifer from The Chronicles of Home and I’m excited to be back here at Honey We’re Healthy sharing another healthy and delicious recipe with you.

Warm(ish) weather has finally arrived here in the Boston area, where I live, and we celebrated last weekend by bringing our outdoor dining table out of hibernation and having dinner on the deck.

We grilled some marinated steak tips, had my favorite crispy oven potatoes (both recipes on my blog this week!), and big bowls of this Greek chopped salad with creamy yogurt dressing.  It was so fresh, colorful, and tasty and just the perfect kickoff to al fresco dining season here in the northeast.

Greek Chopped Salad
1 seedless cucumber
1 c. grape tomatoes, halved
4-5 radishes, cut into quarters
1 c. black olives, halved or quartered
1/2 c. crumbled feta cheese

Creamy Yogurt Dressing
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 1/2 tbsp. lemon juice
3 tbsp. Greek yogurt
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/4 tsp. salt
ground pepper to taste

For the cucumbers, cut off the ends, then cut lengthwise in half and then half again.  Chop and add to a medium bowl.  Add tomatoes, radishes, olives, and feta.  Season with salt and pepper.

For the dressing, whisk all ingredients until well blended and pour over salad.  Toss gently and serve.

post baby weight loss journey | The Silence is Maddening

post baby weight loss journey

December 2014, David and I found ourselves driving home from yet another devastating doctor appointment. We had found out that my pregnancy was not viable - there was no baby, just an empty sac. We would be having a fourth miscarriage. It was heartbreaking looking at the ultrasound machine and just seeing a dark blob where a baby should have been, hearing my daughter ask, "Wheres the baby?" and having to tell her right then, in front of medical staff, "There is no baby." During the car ride home, we tried to explain miscarriage to our little girl who had just turned three a few days before.

We got home and a monumental task loomed in front of us: notifying the family and friends who knew we were pregnant. In the weeks before our our appointment, I made sure to tell them repeatedly when our appointment was. And yet, we waited for hours for someone, anyone to ask us how our appointment went. We just found out our baby died! And the world went on exactly as before. No one noticed. It seemed no one cared. Wed been waiting for this appointment for weeks, it seemed our future and maybe even our entire lives hinged on that doctor appointment and yet no one else even remembered it was happening, not even the family and friends who we had entrusted with the knowledge that we were expecting again. Not even after wed gone through so many losses. Eventually, we realized no one was going to ask us, so I told my husband to just make the calls.
__________

January 2014, almost a year earlier, I found myself pregnant again just three months after our first miscarriage. We found a doctor who we thought would take my short luteal phases seriously and would monitor my progesterone levels, not knowing if thats what caused my previous miscarriage but thinking it might and knowing that was one of the only causes I could actually do something about. I called as soon as I got a positive test and got an early appointment two weeks later. We shyly told just a few friends and family that we were expecting again, knowing that we would need their prayers and support.

The chances of two miscarriages in a row is very small. Statistically, it almost seems like one miscarriage is a guarantee that your next pregnancy will be fine. But that pregnancy pretty closely mirrored the previous one and I had no symptoms and very little hope. Still, we headed into our first appointment with what optimism we could muster. When the ultrasound screen showed an empty sac, I knew. The doctor thought perhaps my dating was off and since we were just past the point where you could see a heartbeat, that maybe everything was still fine. So we scheduled an appointment a few weeks later and prayed to see a heartbeat, but I already knew we never would.

It was so lonely waiting for our next appointment. It seemed like an eternity. Days went by, a week, and still none of the friends or family who knew we were pregnant and who had asked several times when my first appointment was ever asked how it went. I just wanted one person to remember. One person to realize how important that appointment was. Over the course of two weeks, I was just waiting for one person to ask me, "How are you?" so I could tell them. No one did.

I suppose I was being unrealistic. Unless youve gone through pregnancy loss, prenatal appointments just arent a big deal. But for me, theyre a matter of life and death.
__________

When I was pregnant with Lucia, I saw doctor (well, midwife) appointments almost as inconveniences. Each time I went in, it took a few minutes for the midwife to check me, everything was fine, I never had any questions, and then I was on my way. I never did anything to prepare for my appointments, I never really thought about them until I saw them on the calendar for the next day.

Now, my doctor appointments take hours of mental preparation. I play out every possible scenario in my head: everything is fine; there is no heartbeat; there is a heartbeat, but its slow and/or the babys growth is behind; there seems to be some kind of birth defects or genetic anomaly; there is a problem with my lab tests, etc., etc., etc. I remember the dates of my appointments exactly and on any day I can tell you exactly how many days until my next appointment and how many days since my last appointment. In many ways, my life seems to revolve around these appointments and time seems to divided into eras by them - the time between my first and second appointment, the time between my second and third, etc.
__________

Family members and friends who have only had healthy pregnancies dont seem to understand why I always ask when their appointments are and always make sure to ask them about them hours afterward. They can never seem to remember when their next appointment is, but I always know. I put them on my calendar.

I just dont want someone to come home from a doctor appointment with bad news and have no one contact them with concern. Too many times, Ive had another appointment gone wrong, another ultrasound without a heartbeat, another heartbreak, and even though I made sure to tell family and friends a hundred times the date of my appointment, no one asks how it went. I hate having to contact them specifically to tell them or having them ask a week later and reopen the wound. Its much easier for someone to ask, "How did it go?", to know that they care, and to simply be able to answer, "Not well. Not what wed hoped for."

I dont presume to speak for everyone. Im sure there are plenty of people who dont want to be asked about a devastating appointment and who would rather decide themselves how and when theyll share the news. But for me, when something goes wrong and no one asks, the silence is maddening. It seems as if no one cared enough to remember when my appointment was. When we have to be the ones to call and tell family, it feels kind of like, "Hey, Im not sure if you actually want to know, but..." If we really didnt feel like talking about it, we could just avoid the phone call or text, but having to be the one to pick up the phone puts all the burden on us. And I really want someone to share our burdens.

Its very hard for most people to ask for the support they need. So when you get bad news, its much more difficult to have to be the one to pick up the phone, share the news, and ask for support, than to simply answer someone who has already done the hard work of bridging the gap and reaching out to you. So if a friend or family member gets bad news at a prenatal appointment, I want them to receive that call or text from me and make it so that they just have to answer if they need someone. If they ignore me because they dont want to talk to me about it yet, I respect that. But I dont want anyone to ever feel like no one cared enough to remember when their appointment was or to ask how it went. Or to feel that they are alone or that they have to seek out support. I want to give them the option to answer and the acknowledgement that someone knows and cares.

That phone call is like extending a hand. Your friend may not decide to take it, but if she does need a hand and none is offered to her, she may fall.
