baby weight loss 8 months | The Camp House

baby weight loss 8 months

When I first became a mom, four-and-a-half years ago, I had a difficult time letting go of the me before kids. I cant be certain, but perhaps it was hard to make the adjustment because I had spent my ENTIRE adult life (almost 10 years!) filling roles that did not include motherhood.

Thankfully my life circumstances at the time allowed me to continue working part-time as a graphic designer and I have been able to spend the last 5 years wearing multiple hats.

One of the biggest blessings of continuing part-time with my career, besides keeping a foot in the door and my skills up-to-date, is that I made a friend who understands the me who works. This has been helpful in so many ways since I no longer go to an office where I would be surrounded by peers.

We actually met through Craigslist, when I was first just starting up freelancing in the Chattanooga area, and we have been colleagues and friends ever since.

Initially 98% of our interaction was through email, but in recent years we have made an effort to get together several times a year for coffee or breakfast. We talk shop. We talk motherhood. We talk about life in general. We discuss current projects, client frustrations, new software, and she doesnt mind if I bring a baby along (Im pretty sure Jack tagged along as a newborn when she first interviewed me!).

Im so grateful that I live in a time that I can work remotely, and that I have peers who understand why I choose to freelance as well as the frustrations (and benefits) of working from home.

Today we met at The Camp House in downtown Chattanooga for breakfast. The place was hopping. I had a latte with my scrambled eggs, bacon, and potatoes with cheese. The food was simple but incredibly delicious. You know I love breakfast, and this place hit the spot. With lots of couches and big tables, The Camp House is a great place for a meeting or to work remotely (though maybe on a quieter day, today was super loud). They also have a huge outdoor area for warmer days.

The Camp House is a unique venue in that while it serves as a cafe during the day, and music venue in the evening, it is also a church on Sunday – a part of The Mission Chattanooga Community that meets in three distinct venues throughout the city of Chattanooga. If you havent had a chance to check out The Camp House, you really should.

newborn baby weight loss gain | My Live Fit Week 9 Recap

newborn baby weight loss gain

"What doesnt kill you makes you stronger!"

I had hoped to bring you my Live Fit Week 9 recap last week, but a lingering cold made it difficult to complete it in time.  It seems all of America is getting the flu lately.  A couple of days I went to the gym, but only walked on the treadmill instead of doing that days weight training workout.  Phase 3 of Live Fit is difficult because the workouts keep your heart rate up the whole time, no rests!  In between sets, you do "active rests" like jump rope for a minute, jog/sprint, do step-ups, or abs.  I used to hate jumping rope (I couldnt do it, kept messing up, and felt super self-conscious), but now Im getting pretty good at it and think its FUN! :)

After I recovered from my cold, I kicked butt in the gym!  Seriously, we all have stresses in our lives and taking your emotions out on those weights at the gym can be a life saver.  Put on your iPod, play your rock-out music, and GO!  You will feel so much better after a hard, sweaty workout, I promise.

DAY 57: LEGS

DAY 58: BACK/BICEPS

DAY 59: CHEST/SHOULDERS

DAY 60:  HAMSTRINGS/GLUTES/CALVES

DAY 61:  BACK/BICEPS/ABS/SPRINTS

DAY 62: SHOULDERS/TRICEPS/CALVES

I did pretty good completing the workouts as designated, but did not follow the eating plan exactly, which calls for calorie counting in Phase 3.  Because Im already pretty lean, I just eat like I normally do, something like this:

7:30 a.m.  Coffee with creamer, oatmeal with raisins/almonds/cinnamon/skim milk

10:00 a.m.  Protein bar (ideally this should be a meal, but I was on the go this week so just grabbed a bar from my purse)

12:00 p.m.  Grilled chicken pasta salad

3:00 p.m.  Extra lean turkey chili

5:00 p.m. Post-workout protein shake

6:00 p.m.  Extra lean turkey chili

9:00 p.m. Cereal (this isnt recommended, but honestly what I ate this week)

I also had a few hot cocoas (with skim milk) and popped into Starbucks for a tall, nonfat, no whip white mocha.  I told you its not perfect!

So, at the end of Week 9, my arms are getting a little more muscular and so are my legs/glutes- yay!  Also, Im finally noticing that my abs are tighter.

My favorite body parts to work out are shoulders and legs, I dont like doing biceps/triceps, but I can tell the results are worth it.

Heres a comparison from where I started to now.  Probably the biggest difference that Im most thrilled about is my shrinking belly.  I know its difficult to tell because Im not showing my stomach, but you can kind of see in the first shot where my little "pooch" was, and now its disappearing.

You can read about the Live Fit Program (and my progress) by going HERE.   Three more weeks to go.  I will definitely be ready for bikini season this year!  Start NOW, so you will be ready too.  Come summertime, youll wish you started today.

Ive got my eye on these . . .

Snake Print
Bandeau
Ombre

Whos starting TODAY??

baby weight loss newborn | Baby 2 Our Favorite Baby Products 5 9 Months

baby weight loss newborn

When it comes to baby products we love for our second child, the long and short of it is, pretty much everything we used for Jack we basically use for Isaac.

So the good news is, if you are expecting baby #2, you already have all of the gear you need (and you have probably figured out the stuff you didnt really need in the first place). Since we have two boys, this philosophy extends to clothes too. Isaac gets mostly hand-me-downs, but really if your stuff is still in good shape, there is no reason to get something new. You can read my 0-4 month product recap here.

During the 5-9 month range, here are the products we still love, even four years later:

IKEA SUNDVIK crib – yep still using. At 4 months old, we moved Isaac from our Rock N Play in our room to Jacks old crib in the nursery upstairs. Our IKEA crib has served us well and I still love that it meets our criteria for form and function. We still havent really decorated a nursery, but one of these days...

AngelCare Movement and Sound Monitor – check. When we moved Isaac upstairs, we started using Isaacs old baby monitor again. The biggest negative is that the battery doesnt hold a charge very well any more. So it mostly has to sit in its cradle at this point. But it still works.

Fisher Price Space Saver High Chair – still useful. I wrote about this in my 0-4 month post but really it has become even more useful as Isaac is now eating every meal with us at the table.

Recaro ProRide Carseat – thank goodness we already had this. We had to upgrade Isaac to Jacks old convertible carseat at 5 months (he was too big for his baby carrier). With baby number two, it is much easier to move through each new stage because we have already done the research and purchased the products and we know we like them.

Graco Pack N Play – continues to come in handy for traveling once Isaac outgrew the Rock N Play.

Baby Einstein Musical Motion Activity Jumper – a fave. This has become a huge hit with Isaac in the last 3 months. It is about the only thing that allows me to get supper ready and on the table.

Cloth Diapers – four years later we are still using our original cloth diapers about 80% of the time. We have had to get rid of some of the originals and buy some new ones, but we continue to be fans of cloth diapers.

The best part of our current stage is that Isaac has finally discovered a love for toys, and we already have lots of them in stock.

One thing I want to get better at doing with Isaac is reading more regularly, one on one (we already have a ton of books). We always read to our boys at bedtime, but I find that I dont read as often to Isaac as I did Jack. Isaac loves our bedtime story routine, but he is also in a phase where he mostly wants to chew on the books.

One item that we now own that we didnt when Jack was a baby is our Thule Chariot Chariot 1 bike trailer. We have taken Isaac on several bike rides in it and he loves it!

Kelty Messenger Diaper Bag – has been retired (its in the closet as a back up). This time around I decided to use a striped bag from Target that I love. I get so many compliments on it and I like that I dont look like Im hauling around a diaper bag (plus I love stripes!).

Things we are not really using this time:
Pacifiers – Isaac has no interest.
Bibs – Isaac somehow stays much cleaner than Jack ever did.
Baby Bjorn carrier – we went with an Ergo carrier this time (though Isaac is now too big to be carried on my chest, he can still ride on my back).
Neat Solutions disposable placemats – we have talked about getting these again, but really arent super paranoid this go round).
Safety 1st Fever Light Ear Thermometer – we ended up purchasing a Braun Thermoscan Ear Thermometer (now discontinued) instead.

That wraps it up for the edition of products we like (and are still using).

A Look Back at products we used the most when Jack was a baby:
0-3 months  |  3-6 months  |  6-9 months  |  9-12 months

post pregnancy weight loss girdle | Blue Monday Be Gone

post pregnancy weight loss girdle

Im happy to report that I completed week 10 of the Live Fit Challenge last week, which means I only have two weeks to go to finish it.  Some people have asked what I plan to do after that, and honestly, Im not sure.   Lately, our weather has been beautiful, which makes me want to run outside more.

via
In these next two weeks, Im going to watch my diet extra close during the week so I can finish strong! How are your workouts going?  I learned that Monday, January 21 was "Blue Monday" the day when, among other reasons, people are depressed at failing in their new years resolutions.  I say, forget that! If you fall down, just dust yourself off and get back up! My 2-year old does that 10 times a day!

Im not sure I shared my 2013 goals here . . .

Im doing terrible in the coffee/tea department, but all-in-all, I would say Im making a valiant effort at the rest.  A work in progress.

Be back tomorrow with a few of my favorite HEALTHY cookbooks.
