Im sitting here on my back porch, while both of my kids are napping. Did I just say that? Somebody wake me up.

Its quiet and there are leaves all over the place. I swept the deck 2 days ago, but youd never know it. My neighbor is practicing her violin with the windows open. I kinda feel like Im in a scene from a movie and she is providing the background music for my thoughts. ha. Since Cedar has started sleeping through the night for almost 2 weeks now, Ive had room in my brain and heart to think outside of feedings, diapers and entertaining my sweet 2 year old. It feels good. I have moments like Im having now, on my porch swing, where I can just be and think.  This time last year, I was on this deck a lot, reading and smiling, playing with Kael and soaking up the tiny wonders of a Carolina back yard in Fall time. I also spent hours crying out here. I was reading that book, "One Thousand Gifts" and having my world rocked by beauty and simple love. I had no idea that I was about to experience the most severe form of heart break  that I had ever known ; then a bit later, the sweetest of gifts. Its surreal to sit here in the same spot, looking at the same trees, thinking thoughts on the other side of last year. Life is too short to be spent asking why all the time. Sometimes, that question can consume me to the point of stealing the goodness that is still embracing me.

(I wish I could interject the heavenly music that is filling my street right now. Seriously, the perks of living next door to a concert violinist who loves to practice with her windows open.)

Here I am, a year older and I hope, wiser. Wiser in love and a son richer.

A part of me has been worried about these coming weeks. In the back of my mind, I have been a bit worried that I might sink back into a hole of sadness, where everything is run through the filter of cynicalness. Ive been surprised. Ive leaned more into hope than I thought I could. I sat here with Cedar before he fell asleep and had a moment that I wish I could freeze forever. A moment where I realized a miracle has happened in my heart. A sweet, new life with a personality that Im just discovering is in my arms. Did I see this beautiful moment in my future a year ago? No. But it was just the same. Im giving myself grace and not holding myself to a standard of emotional perfection these next couple of months. But, as I walk into this fall and holiday season, Im not afraid. Im peaceful and expectant.

Hey crunchy leaves and pumpkin lattes, cold brisk air and fire pit get togethers, Im not scared of you or what you brought me last year. Lets make new, happy memories with my 3 handsome boys this year shall we?

He makes all things beautiful in His time.

My brightest ray of sunshine is 10 months old. I cant believe it. These past 10 months have been the fastest, gloriously lingering months of my life. Somedays, I wish life would run on slow motion mode. Its going by so quickly! This sweet little boy, whos always happy and wanting to explore, has stolen my heart away. Hes full on walking and trying to run.  He rarely crawls anymore, kinda breaks my heart. When he started crawling so early, everyone said hed walk at 10 months, and almost to the day, they were right.

We go through bags of frozen blueberries like water, because of this boy! He eats like a toddler. Always stuffing his wee cheeks like a chipmunk. Cedars favorite person is Kael, although Kael isnt as interested as Cedar thinks he is. ;)  We have entered the "This is MINE!" stage. Lord help us. haha.  I call Cedar "bright eyes" a lot. Every time I look at him, he lights up with the biggest, sweetest most gentle smile that Ive ever seen. Hes magic, medicine and perfection. Gah, I love this kid.  And the baby jibber jabber that fills my house these days,  I cant even handle it! I was wondering the other day what it would be like to have a perpetual 10 month old. This age is just so perfect. Of course that would be weird and selfish. Life is about being loved, loving and growing. But, I do kinda wish I could bottle this time up forever.

Breastfeeding is hanging on by a thread, Cedar only nurses 3 times a day now...tear. Im going to try and keep it up until hes one at least if, I can. I never thought Id love breastfeeding as much as I do. But, it seriously has been THE best experience this time around. Now I know why women cry when they wean their kids.

When did I become a mom of 2 sons? When did this happen? You know you have those moments in life where you feel like youre a spectator, just for a second? Youre looking at your life and yourself from the outside. I have a lot of those lately. I look at my boys and am in awe of the beauty of their precious little souls. I have found more love than stress in my journey with two, so far. I love it. I love being a mother with every part of my being.

My sweet pajama boy. Some days you just stay in your jammies all day, right?

Last week, I had one of the sweetest highlights that my momma heart has had in this chapter of toddler-dom. I took Kael to school, last Tuesday.  There, in the parkinglot that morning, were some tears that we were trying to work through.One of my dear friends, Kim pulled up behind me and was getting her little boy, Oliver out of the car. (Kael gets to go to school with 3 of his best little friends and its precious.) Kaels chubby cheeks were still wet and he had a scowl on his face, but the moment he saw Oliver, his face lit up and he ran over to his friend with his arms open. They hugged each other and started giggling without our coaxing.  I yelled at Kim to look, before the moment was gone. It was the cutest thing. Then, they tromped into class together. Seriously, Im living a childhood/teenage dream, taking my kid to preschool with his friends, whos moms are some of my best friends. My heart bursts every time.

Kael, youre dang cute buddy and you love life with all your heart.

Seriously, he started crawling at 4.5 months, guys. Crazy. Kael was always content to lounge and be carried, but Cedar has been planning his first triathlon for months, I swear. ha! These pictures were taken at my parents house, a couple of months ago. My moms cute red toes were a bit of an obsession for little C. haha. So precious. 

Oh little bug, I love you and your sweet little wiggly soul. Im not going to try and stop you or wish youd slow down. Ill always be your biggest fan and sideline cheerleader, as you pass me full speed ahead on the sidelines.

Warm days are treasures to me! Weve had SO much rain and unseasonably chilly weather that a sunny day is kind of sacred now. Lorean, one of my closest girlfriends, dropped by my house last week with her kids Micah and Asher. (Who I adore like my own!)  Micah and Kael have been buddies since they were born and it was all squeals and giggles on our back deck, as Micah doused Kael with the water hose. He kept yelling for her to get him and she gladly obliged, haha.  They were both in heaven. When I heard all of their happy laughs and screams, I jumped outside to take a few pictures. I love these crazy kids so much and I love how they are growing up together. I cant believe they will both be 3 this year?! (tears) Memories of gold for me right here. 

BTW, If you have dont have a kiddie pool, put your water hose on "mist!" its the best water gun and source of entertainment for warm days at our house!

The chilly air, on this late afternoon in early December, some winter sunshine, a Christmas tree farm and sweet friends, made up a perfect day of memories for us this year.

Life with little souls, is an extra special experience during the holidays. And sharing that wonder with people who have the same heart as you is priceless. We all eventually found ourselves lost in the rows of trees, searching for just the right one. Forest Kael kept calling out at the top of his voice for his buddies, Dash and Ollie. Theyd find each other and be off again, avoiding tree stumps, begging for the right to hold the saws and talking like big boys about who knows what. They ran throughout the groves with sticks, laughing and scheming.  Marshmallows were roasted, hot chocolate was sipped and the wild, happy squeals from these little rascals were like Christmas bells to our ears.

It was a golden day to my heart. Memories made and stored away in my treasure box to be brought out for loving, on another day.

For the most part, simple and billowing layers are my go to.  I dont encourage myself or others to have this as a practice, but I might have slept in the tee and leggings a time or two, then rolled out of bed after throwing on this sweater and a few rings... bam. haha. btw, I rarely wear anything but moccasins. But, these booties are THE most comfortable shoes ever. Samuel bought them for me and I have been living in them all week.

Today, we are going on a road trip to visit dearest friends, in the next state over. Im so excited for this mini get away with my guys and kindred spirits.  Kaels Uncle Jason is taking Sam and Kael to our boys first baseball game and I get to meet one of my best friends babies for the very first time! Ah! Lots of laughter and filled hearts are in order for us, the next few days. Ive got the happy, early morning buzz of having packed bags and comfy clothes, ready for hours in the car.

Today is also a day that my heart is overwhelmed with an intense desire and need to pray, love and comfort. A best friend of mine will be at the doctors today with her little girl, Sparrow. Many of you have been following along her journey, since she was born with a major heart defect and has undergone 2 open heart surgeries the last 2 years. Well, today they will give her mom, Jessie the date for her last and final surgery sometime this month, which is Sparrows birthday month. She will be 3. If you have a moment, please pray for and send peace and love her way today. I love this girl as if she were my own and the reality that the most perfect little bird, bursting with personality and soul, has to go through this once more is more overwhelming than I can describe.
