weight loss during pregnancy obese | Baby Dedication 2015 Isaac

weight loss during pregnancy obese

One of the downfalls of moving often when you are growing a family is that you sometimes miss out on baby-related events (like church baby showers and baby dedications).

In the case of Jack, we had not yet placed membership at our church in Huntsville when it was time for baby dedication Sunday. So while we were in the audience, we did not get to participate in standing on stage with the other parents (we officially placed membership shortly after that Sunday).

This past Sunday was New Arrivals Day (or baby dedication day) at the church we currently worship with in Chattanooga. These events always make me feel a bit emotional. To start there was a slideshow of the new babies, followed by comments from the Childrens Minister and then all of the families with new arrivals joined the Pulpit Minister on stage to dedicate our sweet babies.

As we walked up on to the stage I was struggling to choke back my emotions, but then Jack started acting goofy and I had something to focus on instead of crying (so really it was a good distraction).

Before we were called up onto the stage, the Childrens Minister explained that each family would receive a Mason Jar filled with 938 pennies to represent each week our child will be in our care, he then challenged us to make each week with our kids count.

Once on stage our pulpit minister exhorted us to dedicate our children to God and to raise them as the bible has called us.

He also requested that the congregation support us all in our endeavor to raise godly children (it was more eloquent than that, but I was trying to keep Jack from spinning around the stage – baby dedications are not a great place to practice spinjitzu).

Im thankful for our church family and for the opportunity to participate in an official baby dedication. Our prayer, and goal as parents, is that our children will grow up to love the Lord with all their hearts, souls and minds, and to love others as they love themselves.

Afterwards the church provided a meal for all of the families so that we could have the opportunity to fellowship. We were thankful to have Daniels parents join us on this special day.

dr oz pregnancy weight lose | TopConTn 2015

dr oz pregnancy weight lose

This past Saturday I took off my mommy hat for the day and spent the entire day wearing my designer hat. Since entering the freelance world and become a full-time mommy, I really dont get many opportunities to immerse myself in the design world. I spent my day with a fellow designer at the TopCon design conference here in Chattanooga at Track29.

The day was a little tricky for me in that I am still nursing Isaac, but Daniel and I were able to coordinate so that he met me right before lunch and then again right before the last speaker of the day. Getting to hear speakers in my field was inspiring for me, and Daniel (along with the help of his sister, Amy) had a fun day with the boys. Isaac did melt down at the end of the day, but the witching hour is always hard no matter who is with the boys.

James T. Edmondson sharing his process for creating fonts.

From a strictly design point of view, my favorite speakers were James T. Edmondson of OhNo Type Company and Bethany Heck from Microsoft. Overall fine artist, Wayne White, did a fantastic job of wrapping up the conference encouraging the attendees to find the things they love and pursue them – even if it is crazy puppets.

Bethany Heck questions the rules regarding typefaces.

Illustrator, Logan Faerber, shared some of his failures and mistakes on his journey as an illustrator, and art director, Adé Hogue, shared his 6 crushing doubts. Doubts and mistakes are things all of us can identify with at some point in our careers.

Wayne White shares his crazy adventures in fine art including his work on Pee Wee Herman.

James Edmondson shared his process for developing typefaces and Bethany Heck went into depth about not being afraid to break the so-called rules of only using 3 typefaces in one work. I think the more experience you have under your belt (and more understanding of the design process) it becomes easier to break these rules. Fresh out of college, it is easier to make mistakes just by not having a good grasp of why you should or shouldnt combine certain elements.

Logan Faerber shared some of his failures and mistakes, working with Marvel.

Adé Hogue shared his 6 crushing doubts and ways to stay creative.

It was fun getting to screen-print our own t-shirts. Print-making was among my favorite classes in college and I have always thought it would be fun to pursue again at some point. Fresh out of college, I actually purchased the equipment, but I didnt have a good space and I never really got it going. Maybe as my boys get older I will be able to create a studio space at my house. Who knows?

I am feeling very inspired and looking forward to implementing some of what I learned on Saturday into some of my upcoming projects. I have to say that I feel very blessed to have the clients that I have and that I am able to combine a lifestyle of being a stay-at-home mother who can also continue to freelance and keep my creativity flowing.

Motherhood has maybe been a slight step back for me professionally, but it hasnt meant losing myself, or my profession. I am so grateful to be able to do both.

weight loss on pregnancy | Our Little Fake Christmas Tree A Christmas Tradition

weight loss on pregnancy

In our family we have quite a few traditions that we do during the month of December.

This year we kicked off those traditions by putting up our small, fake, Christmas tree the week following Thanksgiving.

While Daniel and Jack worked on setting up the tree, I made my decadent hot chocolate (link to recipe here).

Daniel asked why we still had this little tree after all of these years (it was purchased from Big Lots for $10 for our first Christmas as a married couple). He wanted to know if we had it for sentimental reasons.

At this point there is definitely something sentimental about that little tree, but if truth be told, we still have it because we are frugal and dont like to replace things that still serve a purpose.

This little tree holds all of the ornaments we were given as wedding presents (note to engaged couples: if you get married in December, you will receive a TON of Christmas ornaments).

There is also a collection of ornaments from all of the places we have visited over the last 13 years. So every December we have a walk down memory lane... remember that trip to Oregon with a stop at Crater Lake? Oh, and Hawaii! And that bike ride up (and down) the Virginia Creeper Trail?

That first trip to the beach... there are quite a few Hilton Head ornaments and now we have new beach ornaments from the Gulf of Mexico. This year we added an alligator ornament from Wakulla Springs, Florida. I hope our boys love to look at this ornaments and reminisce with us in the years to come.

And now that we have sweet kiddos, the tree holds ornaments for them – those that celebrate their first Christmas and homemade ornaments Jack has brought home from church and preschool.

One day we may need a bigger tree, or maybe a kid tree as well as a memory tree. For now, we treasure these memories and moments with our little family.

And to keep it real, with Isaac being just 7 months old there was a moment we had to pause and put the littlest guy to bed because he was exhausted.

Jack stayed up and to help us finish decorating. Im sure bed time was harder than usual because of the sugar-ed up hot chocolate and the delayed bedtime, but sometimes that is the price to pay for these moments!
