baby weight loss right after birth | Isaac is Five Months Old

baby weight loss right after birth

Another month! Are we really almost to the half-year old point???

Our littlest man is really starting to get interactive and we all love it.

There is a lot of chattering and squealing coming from this little dude. He is discovering his voice and loves to use it. Especially in the evenings, like when we read to Jack at bedtime or try to watch TV.

Lately it sounds like he is saying "mama" but I dont think its a real word yet.

Isaac gives us the biggest smiles (a toothy grin with no teeth) and has big belly laughs that are so much fun. He is such a content and happy baby.

As for his physical appearance, he is getting more and more hair. Right now it looks blond with a hint of red... we shall see.

Isaac loves feeling different textures. He rubs his hand against the couch and wall and anything that feels different, including Sophies fur.

Little guy has starting to attempt to roll his big self over (I dont know for sure, but Im guessing he is around 22 pounds).

And he can sit when assisted. He will lift his head and body to a sitting position when he is leaning back.

Speaking of 22 pounds, he is now wearing 12 month clothes! The outfit above is just a little too small!

AND we had to go ahead and upgrade his car seat this month because he was just too big for his baby carrier. He is now in Jacks old Recaro convertible car seat.

Isaac also officially outgrew the Rock-N-Play (we probably waited too long on this) and we finally moved to the crib in his nursery, upstairs.

We did have a setback with sleep after our vacation, but he seems to be settling into a new pattern of sleeping 5 hours again at night (thank goodness!).

Isaac has discovered his toes. It is funny to watch him roll around trying to grab them.

In addition to grabbing his toes, he loves to pinch me and pull my hair. Little man has a serious grip with those fingers. Jack is not a fan of getting pinched and takes it quite personally.

He is also officially a thumb sucker. The child will not take a paci!

Over the last couple of weeks, Isaac has shown an interest in the food on our plates, but we still havent started him on food. Im not ready to commit to carrying around food everywhere, not to mention the change in diaper composition!

This month we started dropping him off at the Cradle Roll class at church and he loves it. I know he loves the singing and all of the attention he gets from the teachers (Ive been dropping him at the Y since 4 weeks, so he is pretty comfortable with being left).

Isaac can now sit/bounce in his bouncer and really enjoys it. He actually outgrew the baby swing at the Y (they cant buckle him in any more!).

He now gets distracted while nursing and I have to give him my full attention. He will stop nursing and look at me until I put my phone down.

He also loves to watch his brother play and hates to miss out on anything. Jack likes trying to demonstrate things, like how to rollover and crawl.

This month, we went to the beach...

celebrated Daniels 35th birthday...

went on a hike and visited a farm.

We are keeping busy and it will be fun when he can join in on our outings a bit more!

*As with Jack, I will be posting monthly updates of Isaac on a quilt (inherited from my Grandma), next to a yellow Tonka truck (a toy from Daniels childhood).

after pregnancy weight loss plan | Fall Break 2015 Wakulla Springs

after pregnancy weight loss plan

Wakulla Springs, located near Tallahasee, Florida, is the world’s largest and deepest freshwater spring. It was also our first day trip while visiting my sister during Jacks Fall Break.

The park offers a swimming area, complete with a diving platform over the deepest part of the springs, river boat tours, nature trails, horse trails, a historic lodge and more. We took advantage of the lodge, river boat tour and swimming area on this visit.

Upon arrival we purchased our tickets for the 12:30 boat ride. Since we had about 20 minutes to kill, we wandered up to the historic lodge where we got to see Old Joe. Old Joe is an 11-foot alligator that died in 1966. It is rumored that he was 300 years old.

After checking out Old Joe, we purchased ice cream for the kids and boiled peanuts for the adults. You can never go wrong with ice cream. At the lodge we also learned that Creature from the Black Lagoon and the early Tarzan movies were filmed at this location.

On our river boat tour, we managed to grab the very front seats in the boat – with two 3-year-old boys I was more than a little nervous on several occasions, but we survived. No boys jumped out of the boat and thankfully no alligators got too close!

While there are many birds and turtles to see in this wildlife sanctuary, the biggest treat is the manatees and alligators that live in this spring.

This was my first time to see a manatee. It almost looked like a large smooth rock floating in the river. It never came above the water, just floated lazily next to our boat.

The highlight of the boat ride was probably the alligators. I have never seen so many of these creatures in one place. To be honest, they make me a bit nervous.

For the most part they just ignored us. Our river boat captain would pull up right next to the bank so that we could get a good glimpse of them. One turned its back to us, preferring to nap in the sun than entertain tourists.

Toward the end or our ride we came across two alligators that were quite large. The guide joked that they must be related to Old Joe. Then one of them started to raise its head and come a little closer to us... our guide backed the boat away in a hurry. I tried not to imagine the worst – like the fact that our two little boys would have been a good gator snack.

After our boat ride (which the kids got a bit restless on), we headed to the swimming area of the spring. It made me a bit anxious that the kids were swimming in the SAME spring as the alligators we had just glimpsed.

Supposedly the alligators never come over to the swimming area, but you can believe I kept a watchful eye out for anything mysterious looking in the crystal clear water!

While we sat watching the children splash in the water and stir up the "al-a-gee" I sat back and watched as a bird on the opposite bank dove out the sky toward the water. Just as it neared the water, an alligator jumped up and snatched it. I about fell over. The alligator must have jumped 3-4 feet in the air to grab the bird. I had no idea they could jump like that.

Needless to say I was VERY nervous about the kids after that. The kids had no clue and enjoyed the water, even though it was freezing! A trip to Wakulla Springs is worth the visit just to see all of the animals in their natural habitat.

After our time at the springs, we went back to Tallahassee for a late lunch at the Midtown Caboose. Midtown Caboose offers a ton of different gourmet burgers.

Since it was the week before Canadian Thanksgiving, I decided to try to the Oh Canada! Burger. This consisted of a burger topped with hashbrowns, Canadian bacon and a fried egg, sandwiched between two pancakes with a side of maple syrup. It was delicious and I ate the ENTIRE thing. Midtown Caboose is definitely worth a visit if you like burgers.

cholestasis of pregnancy weight loss | Thirty Five

cholestasis of pregnancy weight loss

Entering my 30s was rough for me. The summer before my 30th birthday I quit a good job, sold a house in another state and was living in a 30-ft camper in a campground. Life was feeling bleak and very much on hold. I felt like there were so many things I had failed to accomplish as I stared 30 in the face, and I was really lonely.

Five years later, so much has changed. I am in a very different place – literally. We have moved twice in the last five years [Hollywood and Signal Mountain] and we now have two precious boys [Jack and Isaac].

My lower cupboards are full of kids plates and cups. I find toy cars, swords and dinosaurs in the oddest places. I have an ever-growing pile of kids artwork that I havent quite figured out how to deal with. I change poopy diapers on a daily basis, havent had a good nights sleep in a while, and answer a never-ending string of "why" questions. But I wouldnt change my life for anything.

I didnt cross many new items off of my List of 100 Things to do in my lifetime, but that doesnt bother me. My life is full and, even with the hard moments, my 30s have been my favorite decade. Each passing year is better than the last.

I dont know if the changes in me are because of motherhood, or if it stems from the wisdom you can only gain with age. Perhaps difficult life experiences have helped me embrace where I am today instead of longing for what I dont have. I dont know. At 35 I am no longer looking for the adult in the room, and I dont feel like I have to prove myself to gain validation from others. I dont have regrets, even though there are some things I wish I could do. I am embracing the season of life that I am in.

There are elements of my life that I would change if I could – namely Daniels long hours and commute time, but we have learned to make the most of a challenging circumstance, and I know that life as it is right now wont stay this way forever. There will be more hardships, but I believe that there are also wonderful days ahead.

Here are Five Things I hope to do before 40 (though, hopefully I will have many more adventures and projects):
1) Participate in a Triathalon
2) Remodel our master suite
3) Take an epic road trip to visit various National Parks
4) Hike 100 miles on the Tour de Mt Blanc in France
5) Take a multi-day paddling trip in the Boundary Waters Wilderness Area

I can say without a doubt that I am looking forward to being 35 and all that the coming year holds.
